Best Shots 2021
If you intend to decode the story, it tells more than what it really was. Why would I want to destroy such fun? The richness within the scene makes it one of the most beautiful image I’ve ever taken.
This unedited jpeg came straight from LUMIX S5’s MonoHLG. The streetlight precisely struck on the family in the middle, and separated them from the crowds. It was at this very moment, when everyone was busy running by, this family got to stop and pay their attention to a street performance that was barely noticed by the passers.
At one of the most delicious street food locations in Chaoyang, Shantou, 2 kids were helping their parent's’ food stall deliver ingredients.
It was after 10pm, and the lights had just gone out at the seaside park. Kids were still playing at the playground, while 2 of their parents waited on the side. This image was taken handheld under ISO25600, with a shutter speed of about 1/15s. It shows the unbelievable low-light performance of LUMIX S5 in a scene that was almost completely black.
It is an ordinary showing the most authentic moment in China: a middle schooler with the iconic Chinese uniform is unlocking a “shared bicycle”. The featuring of the shared bicycle and the uniform and the scene created an unparalleled exclusiveness in both space and time.
This lonely photo presents a bored child, sitting in front of a cafe, looking into the void. He was sitting there for quite a while until I took the picture. I believe his parents are the owners of this cafe, who were too busy at the moment taking care of the customers. The tenderness and emptiness of this image forced me to put it into this album, and I can’t resist.
My brother and my cousin walking together in grandma’s hometown.
The enforcement of the zero-COVID policy in China has influenced many citizens’ daily lives and has generated people’ fear of COVID even more. Meanwhile, it is this policy that kept the society running normally and the people safe. While sometimes we could encounter a couple cases bursting in several cities, “Zero-COVID” was real for most of the time in most cities in China.
Two high school girls happily grabbing their burgers, in one of the most expensive burger places in Shenzhen.
Titled “ART IS GARBAGE” in my mind. This mountain of used art materials was created in front of the dorm at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, insinuating the massive, environmentally damaging, inescapable by-products of art schools.
The beggar at Bryant Park.
The woman was resting and charging her phone at Herald Square, weirdly with her shoes off. She left after a minute.
People chilling in front of a Seven-Eleven. It is a case you’ll often find in this busy city that many bored people chilling outside in the middle of weekday, sitting in a cafe.
Boys and girls taking a rest after a round of practicing skateboarding. The dynamics within their conversation after the activity was subtle and tacit.
An empty classroom at Pratt Institute. The ritual essence of this type of arrangement in the classroom was revealed through the vibe of this photo.
